What is a Medicare Advantage Plan?
Medicare Advantage plan, also know as Medicare Part C, is a type of health plan offered through private insurance companies that are contracted with Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans work similar to insurance during our working years with networks for doctors, hospitals, deductibles and co-pays. In addition to Medicare benefits, Medicare Advantage plans may also include vision, dental, drug coverage.
If you enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan, you will continue to pay your monthly Part B premium in addition to a separate premium for the Medicare Advantage plan.
Not all Medicare Advantage plans are the same, so it is important for you to carefully review the plan’s benefits, cost and network before enrolling.
What Does it Cover?
Medicare Advantage plans must include all the services covered by Original Medicare (Part A and Part B), except for hospice care, which remains covered under Part A.
Medicare Advantage plans cover the following:
- Inpatient hospital care (Part A)
- Outpatient medical services (Part B)
- Emergency care
- Lab tests and diagnostic services
- Preventive care
- Mental health services
- Physical, occupational, and speech therapy
- Durable medical equipment
- May include vision, dental, hearing, prescription drug coverage, and more
